Teaching is like Pine Cove for Grown-ups

Ok, for those of you who don’t know me very well, I am completely obsessed with Pine Cove Camps. I went there as a camper and then I worked there as long as I could (5 summers). I  would still go back if they would let me and I still fess up to the fact that my dream job is still to be a Pine Cove camp director’s wife. (No pressure, hubs, but you have the ability to make my dream come true …) So, why do I love Pine Cove so much? Well let me tell you.

I love Pine Cove because it completely transformed me. It’s where I first had the heart knowledge, not just head knowledge, to truly understand Jesus, my Savior and I grew so much every summer I worked there. I loved working with junior high and high school kids and being able to see God’s hand in their lives. It is a place where all worldly distractions are diminished because everything is centered on Christ. To quote a worship song “the things of the earth grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.” I would literally live at Pine Cove if I could. I bawled my eyes out after every summer I had to leave; I hated leaving that place.

Now, I’m all grown up (kinda) and married (to my Pine Cove dream guy) and have a job that is actually similar to Pine Cove. I am a High School Science teacher at  a Christian school and one of my responsibilities to make sure my students are growing in deeper understanding of God. I’m surrounded by an amazing and supportive Christian community. Being a 1st year teacher is hard work and I have received an unbelievable amount of encouragement from all the staff. Now, at the end of every week I get to meet with a group of students to make sure they are doing okay and have a good week at school. I get to dig deeper into their lives and help support them as they travel through high school. Does that remind you of anything? It reminds me of being at Pine Cove!! Even though I am in a “grown-up” job, I still get the opportunity to pour into students lives and teach them about how wonderful our Savior is! I am blessed!

So like I said, teaching is like Pine Cove for Grown-ups! 🙂
